  • Field Trip!

Today was a field trip with Timothy to the farm - plenty of chances to touch animals like goats, chickens, turkeys, chicks, rabbits, and cows... of which our little one didn't want to touch a single one (oh well.)

He did get to get some gardening in:

    And learned about fresh eggs:

As mentioned, this is the closest he came to touching an animal - a baby chick.  But when he tried to touch, the chick started flapping his wings, so that ended that idea...

As a souvenir, he did pick up a lil' pumpkin:

Oh, and they learned about milking goats.  This is the closest he came to doing that (as you can see, his classmates all got in the act...)

  • Catching up - the beginning of school

It's been a busy month, and finally we have a free weekend, which means catching up with uploading pictures among other things.

Since the last blog, we celebrated mom's birthday (with a cake done by Hannah and dad):

Phoebe's enjoying puffs and other sorts of more "real" food:

Of course, there was the first day of school too:

Sprinkled between all of this was lots of sports for the kids, including Timothy's t-ball & Hannah's soccer:

And the kids did mini-golf too for the first time - and loved it!  (Note to grandparents...).

Phoebe?  Well, she's happy watching and has found her own distractions...

  • Mellow Phoebe

As the youngest of the three tykes, we've found that Phoebe is the most laid back of the three (maybe pensive?) - she typically just enjoys watching everything, and to this point with not much more than the raised eyebrow - definitely interested and internally taking notes, but more reserved than emotive.

And it's funny - the times she does smile and giggle, she'll do so right until the millisecond before someone takes the picture, after which she reverse mugs - goes from a happy face to a blank face. Which means that to this point, we have a LOT of pictures like this (not to mention countless arrrgh! moments):

But today, Phoebe cut loose, amused by Hannah dropping a silicone toy - and we got a lot more smiling pictures:

Here's video of Phoebe with the giggles:

  • Week with Yeye and Nainai

At the beginning of the month, Hannah, Timothy & Phoebe were overjoyed to have special guests at our house - yeye and nainai!  (paternal grandparents)

How much fun was it? Loads of fun;  in addition to the normal rota of activities (swimming pool, camp), they:

Showed off their baseball skills in the basement:

    Did some gymnastics:

    028

Did "homework" with nainai (working on their math & alphabet workbooks, of course, as good Chinese kids)

    030

Went to "touch a truck" day:

    046 043

    Sports camp:

    257 262

    Made scallion pancakes:

    Went to the children's museum:

(even nainai got into the cargo net:)

And did some outlet shopping too! What a fun week it was!

  • Cleveland Rocks!

Over the Independence Day weekend, we decided to make the road trip up to Cleveland so that the kids could see their cousins (oh, and so we could too...).  Cousin Lisa was kind enough to host our rowdy bunch, who had a lot of fun.

Among the treats was their absolute delight in hanging out with cuz Samantha and cuz Alex (especially way past H & T's normal bedtime), playin' with cousins Joshua, Micah, and Jacob, and making new friends in Matthew and Julia.  In fact, they all had a blast together Friday and Saturday, including playing on a water slide and eating together:

And as a bonus, though it was closed, Timothy got to see the Indians' ballpark too (that would be his second-favorite team; thanks to Lisa for the pictures):
